iPhone 18 Pro is available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and, for the first time on an iPhone, 2TB. The 256GB iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199 and the 256GB Pro Max is $1,299; Apple has not published prices for the three larger tiers.
That unpublished pricing makes this decision harder than usual. The base tier is 256GB, which covers most buyers, but two of this year’s camera features store more data per capture than before, and the gap to the next tier is unknown until Apple posts it.

Why this year’s camera features matter for storage
Apple Reference Image stores an untouched original with verification metadata alongside the edits you keep, so an edited photo occupies more space than a single file would. Apple has not said how much extra space this adds per image.

On the video side, Cinematic effects now run at up to 60 fps and time-lapse records in 4K Dolby Vision HDR. Higher frame rates and HDR both mean larger files, which pushes frequent video shooters toward 512GB or more. The full camera list is in our announcement coverage.
How to choose without the tier prices
Check the storage used on your current iPhone in Settings, then buy the tier above what you use today if you plan to keep the phone for three or more years.
If you rely on iCloud Photos with Optimize iPhone Storage turned on, 256GB goes further than the raw number suggests. If you keep everything on the device, 512GB is the safer floor.
Wait for Apple to post the tier prices before committing to 1TB or 2TB. The jump from the base tier has typically been a meaningful share of the total cost, and our pre-event price coverage tracked the estimates that circulated before the event.
Pre-orders open Saturday, September 12 at 5 a.m. PT, and availability begins September 18. Apple has not said when tier pricing will be published or whether all four tiers will be available in every color at launch; our pre-order preview covers what to expect from the opening window.
