What to expect from the Slow Horses Season 6 premiere

Apple’s official Season 6 announcement says the Slow Horses will be on the run as Diana Taverner draws them into a deadly game of retaliation and revenge. That premise puts pressure on the entire team, rather than sending only one agent into danger.

The premiere should establish why the agents are being pursued and how Lamb plans to protect them. Apple has not provided an episode-specific synopsis, so details about the first target, attacker or death remain unconfirmed before the episode streams.

The cast gives viewers a clearer idea of the season’s scope. Oldman returns with Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Rosalind Eleazar, Joanna Scanlan, Samuel West, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Jonathan Pryce and Hugo Weaving. Our Season 6 release date and cast guide covers the confirmed ensemble.

Apple also confirms that Cooke will reprise Sidonie “Sid” Baker after her long absence, while Lenny Rush joins the series. The Season 6 trailer’s returning-character reveals provide useful context, although Apple has not explained exactly how Sid re-enters River Cartwright’s life.

Season 6 combines two Mick Herron novels

Season 6 draws from Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh books in Mick Herron’s series. The publisher’s description of Joe Country involves painful memories, a new Slough House recruit and Lamb pursuing the person responsible for killing a former colleague. Slough House places the agents in a fight for survival after their office is erased from official records.

Those book descriptions are useful background, but they do not confirm the television premiere’s events. Apple may combine, reorder or change material while adapting two novels into six episodes. Early reviews have been positive, as our Season 6 review roundup explains, but viewers will need to wait until September 16 for the full premiere story.

Because Apple has announced a global date without publishing local times, viewers should check the episode page in their own Apple TV app near release. The listing in each region will be more reliable than assuming the premiere follows another service’s schedule.
