Episode 3 is titled “Everything Beautiful, Everything Terrible.” According to Apple’s official episode page, Jason’s fixation on the Box tests his marriage, while Ryan and Amanda enter a world that has been permanently changed.

Published episode reporting says Jason tries to remove the Box from his family’s life, only to discover that dismantling it does not solve the problem. A Box forms again, leaving the Dessens without the clean break Jason wanted. That development should remain central to Episode 4 because it changes the family’s idea of safety. Jason can no longer assume that destroying one machine will close every route into their world.

Amanda and Ryan face a separate danger. Their search reportedly brings them into contact with alternate versions of familiar people and a government response to the chaos left by multiverse travel. Apple has not confirmed where Episode 4 takes them, but their storyline now has a direct connection to the consequences created by the many Jason variants.

Leighton is another major unresolved factor. The premiere says he “finds himself,” and later reporting describes Leighton variants sharing information between realities. Episode 4 could continue that thread, although Apple has not said whether Leighton appears in the chapter or how his wider project affects the Dessens.

Readers who need the wider setup can revisit our Dark Matter Season 2 guide. Our Season 1 ending explainer covers why the Dessens left their original world, while the Mitchel MacNamara character guide explains the government figure pursuing answers.

What Apple has confirmed about the schedule

Apple’s Season 2 announcement confirms that the series releases one episode every Friday. The 10-episode season began on August 28 and continues through October 30.

The official listing also leaves the Episode 4 title and runtime unpublished, so those details may not appear until Apple updates its catalog closer to release.

More official information may arrive before the episode begins streaming.

Episode 4 therefore arrives at an important point in the story, but Apple is still protecting its specific twists. Which unresolved storyline do you think the next episode should address first? Share your Dark Matter theories in the comments.
