Apple could introduce a new operating system for the home as soon as October, alongside its long-rumored smart display. The software is expected to combine familiar ideas from iOS, tvOS, and watchOS, but Apple has not announced its name, features, or launch event.
In the September 20 edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman reported that Apple’s home hub could be introduced as early as October. The timing is an earliest window rather than a firm date, and the product could still slip into early 2027.
A shared interface built around Siri AI
The reported operating system would power a roughly square, six- or seven-inch display that can sit on a speaker-like base or attach to a wall. Its home screen is expected to use app icons, widgets, and customizable clock faces. Siri AI would handle voice requests, while the display could provide Home controls, calendars, reminders, music, video calls, and camera views.

Unlike an iPhone, the hub would be a shared household device. Reports say a front camera could recognize who is nearby and show that person’s information, while interface elements could change size as someone approaches or moves away. Apple has not demonstrated either behavior publicly, and it has not confirmed the often-used homeOS name.
Why an October reveal now looks possible
The software’s timing is closely tied to the hardware. Our report on the possible October HomePad announcement notes that Apple is testing units in employees’ homes. Apple also recently clarified which existing products qualify as Home hubs, showing how HomePod and Apple TV currently anchor its connected-home system.
A dedicated platform would give the rumored display an interface designed for rooms and multiple users instead of stretching iPadOS onto a smaller screen. It could also become the software foundation for Apple’s wider home plans, which have faced repeated delays while the company rebuilt Siri.
For now, there is no invitation, product page, or developer documentation. An October announcement is plausible based on current reporting, but it remains a report until Apple confirms the event and the operating system itself.
