Apple has published no manual, no user guide and no support document of any kind for the iPhone Duo. Its iPhone manuals index still stops at the iPhone 17 family and iPhone Air, and none of the six products Apple announced on September 9 has a support library yet.
That matters more on a phone that folds than on one that does not. Anyone who commits $1,999 when pre-orders open on Friday, October 16 is buying on the strength of a product page, a specifications page and a press release, with no published instruction on how to clean, handle or service a display with a hinge through the middle of it.

What Apple has published, and where each source stops
The Duo is unusually well documented as marketing and undocumented as a product you own. Apple’s announcement covers specifications in detail and ownership not at all.

The questions a manual would answer
These are not exotic questions. They are the ones Apple’s own documentation has answered for every previous iPhone, and for the first iPhone with a folding panel they have no published answer.
- How to clean the inner display, which carries a nano-texture finish and a scratch-resistant coating rather than the Ceramic Shield 2 on the outside.
- What Apple advises about dust or grit between the two halves before you close it, on a phone rated IP68 to 6 meters for 30 minutes.
- Any operating or storage temperature guidance specific to the hinge, which Apple says has more than 100 components and custom adhesives for flex relief.
- How the dual-battery system is serviced, and whether a battery service replaces one cell or both.
- Whether Apple advises anything at all about screen protectors on the folding panel.
- How a repair is handled, and at what price, for the inner display, the outer display or the hinge.
Why the gap lands at the worst moment
The sequence is the problem. iOS 27 arrives for other iPhones on Monday, September 14, the iPhone 18 Pro reaches stores on Friday, September 18, and the Duo does not ship until Friday, October 23. Pre-orders for it open a week earlier, on October 16.
So the order goes in five weeks after the announcement and one week before delivery, and Apple has published no date for the documentation that would inform it. The Duo also ships on iOS 27.1 rather than iOS 27.0, a version Apple has neither dated nor released, so even the software the phone arrives with has no published release notes.
What this does and does not mean
It does not mean anything is wrong with the phone. Apple’s support library for a new iPhone has always appeared close to availability rather than at announcement, and the iPhone 17 manuals on the index now were published the same way.
It does mean that the material a careful buyer would read before spending $1,999 does not exist yet, and that every durability question about the fold currently has only a marketing answer. Apple describes the inner display cover as a custom polymer with 40 percent higher stiffness than the industry standard over high-strength glass layers, and it names no test, no standard and no cycle count anywhere alongside that sentence. The same is true of the rest of the September 9 lineup, where six products arrived with no new support pages between them.
What Apple has not said
- When the iPhone Duo user guide or any Duo support document will be published.
- Any cleaning, handling or care instruction for the folding inner display.
- Any repair or screen-replacement price, for either display or the hinge.
- A per-device AppleCare+ price for iPhone Duo.
- A release date or release notes for iOS 27.1, the version the Duo ships with.
The next dates that could change any of this are Monday, September 14, when iOS 27 ships and Apple’s support pages usually move with it, and the week of October 16, when pre-orders open and the documentation pattern set by the iPhone 18 Pro would put the Duo library close behind. Until then, Apple has published dates, prices and specifications, and nothing about living with the phone.
