Name Recognition notifies a deaf or hard-of-hearing person when their name is spoken nearby, in more than 50 languages. Apple’s release does not name which device or operating system runs it, does not describe how the notification appears, and does not say whether it requires setup or runs automatically once available.

The Hikawa Grip & Stand for iPhone is described as an adaptive MagSafe accessory for people with grip and mobility challenges, sold in three colours through the Apple Store worldwide. Apple credits its design to Bailey Hikawa, who is quoted in the release: “Apple’s accessibility work, which involves including disability communities from the very earliest stages of design to make the best possible product for everyone, has been the driving force of this project.” Apple’s release does not publish a price for the accessory or name the three colours.
Why these two are different from the rest of the May release
Every other item in Apple’s May 19 accessibility release carries the same caveat: coming later in 2026. VoiceOver’s Image Explorer and Live Recognition, Magnifier’s updates, Generated Subtitles, hearing aid pairing, Sony Access Controller support and the FaceTime Sign Language Interpretation API are all pending. Name Recognition and the Hikawa Grip & Stand are not. Apple’s release does not explain why these two shipped alongside the announcement while the rest did not.

A physical accessory inside a software announcement
The Hikawa Grip & Stand is the one hardware product in a release otherwise built from software features and one developer API. Apple published it the same day as Vision Pro’s Wheelchair Control, VoiceOver’s Apple Intelligence updates and the Sign Language Interpretation API, inside the same newsroom post rather than as a separate product announcement.
Apple’s own description calls the Hikawa Grip & Stand an accessory that attaches using MagSafe, rather than a built-in part of any iPhone. Apple’s accessibility release does not say whether the grip accessory works with every MagSafe-compatible iPhone or only specific models, and it does not describe how the stand half of the name functions differently from the grip half.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not named a device or operating system requirement for Name Recognition, has not priced the Hikawa Grip & Stand, and has not named its three available colours. It has not said why these two features were ready at announcement while the rest of the release was not, and it has made no claim that either feature suits any individual’s specific needs.
