Most of the attention has gone to the noise cancellation, which Apple says removes up to 50 percent more noise than AirPods 4 with ANC. The sound features sit on the same foundation: a new multiport acoustic architecture and what Apple calls improved computational audio.
What Apple says about next-generation Adaptive EQ
Apple describes the Adaptive EQ in AirPods 5 as next-generation, which marks it as a revised version rather than a carryover. Apple has not published details on what the revision changes, such as how the tuning is measured or how often it adjusts.

The press release frames Adaptive EQ as one part of a package built around the new acoustic design, so it is reasonable to expect the improvements to be tied to that hardware. Apple has not said whether the change is audible in a direct comparison with earlier AirPods.
Personalized Spatial Audio on AirPods 5
Personalized Spatial Audio is listed as a feature of both AirPods 5 models, at $129 and $149. Apple did not describe a new version of the feature in the release, and it has not said whether the personalization step differs from the process on other AirPods.
Spatial Audio depends on the same computational audio pipeline Apple says it improved, though Apple has not quantified the effect on spatial playback. According to Apple’s announcement, the feature is available on both models rather than reserved for the Wireless Charging Case version.

Apple has not published frequency response data, driver specifications or a side-by-side listening comparison, so the size of the sound change is not something the release supports.
