Apple Music AutoMix is now available on tvOS and HomePod, and the Music app in iOS 27, which ships free on Monday, September 14, picks up seven new lyrics translation pairings and five new pronunciation pairings. Those three lines are the entire published change to Apple Music in this software wave.

Apple set them out in its services announcement of June 9, 2026, and has added nothing since. There is no description of what AutoMix does differently, no HomePod generation named, and no AutoMix section on Apple’s own iOS 27 page.

What Apple actually said about AutoMix

Apple’s services announcement lists AutoMix improvements among the Apple Music changes in this release, and states separately that AutoMix is available on tvOS and HomePod. That is the complete published record.

What is missing from it matters as much as what is in it. Apple does not say what the improvement is, does not compare the new behaviour with the old, does not name a setting, and does not say whether the feature needs Apple Intelligence or a particular subscription tier. Anything more specific than the two sentences above is not something Apple has published.

Where AutoMix runs now

The two platforms Apple names are tvOS and HomePod. It names the platform rather than the model, which is worth flagging because both platforms are being served by hardware Apple did not update on September 9.

Apple’s HomePod mini page still describes the S5 chip and the same five finishes, white, yellow, orange, blue and midnight, with no new model and no new date. The Apple TV 4K page still sells the A15 Bionic model in 64GB Wi-Fi and 128GB Wi-Fi plus Ethernet configurations. AutoMix on tvOS and HomePod is therefore a software change landing on speakers and boxes already in people’s homes, as the full event recap sets out.

Seven translation pairings and five pronunciation pairings

The lyrics numbers are the most concrete figures Apple gave for Apple Music this year, and the translation set is published in full.

Pronunciation5Not published

Five of the translation pairings work in both directions and two run one way only, which is how the total reaches seven. For pronunciation Apple gives a count and no language list, so the five pairings are unknown until the update ships.

The other music feature Apple published this week

Music Recognition with Shazam is part of Audio Intelligence, the new Apple Intelligence category Apple documented in support document 148354 on September 9 for Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.

Apple says Sound Recognition and Music Recognition are available now and need an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE second generation or later. Live Rewind and Siri Recap, the other two Audio Intelligence features, launch in beta later in 2026 and need an iPhone 16 or newer. Listening on AirPods 5 is not a stated requirement for any of them.

The tvOS timing is the loose end

iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27 all carry the same line on their Apple pages, available starting 9.14. tvOS 27 does not. Apple’s tvOS address redirects to a general TV and Home page, and the tvOS 27 release notes did not publish a date.

What Apple did publish is a tvOS 27 release candidate, build 24J360, issued on September 9 alongside the release candidates for every other platform. That points to the same Monday, and it is still not a date Apple has confirmed.

What Apple has not said

  • What AutoMix does differently after the improvements.
  • Which HomePod models are covered by the word HomePod.
  • Whether AutoMix reaches iPhone, iPad, Mac or CarPlay.
  • Which five language pairings gain pronunciation support.
  • A release date for tvOS 27.
  • Whether any of the Apple Music changes require Apple Intelligence.

iOS 27 arrives on Monday, September 14 as a free update, which puts the lyrics pairings three days out. Apple has published no tvOS 27 date and no support document for it, so the AutoMix change on Apple TV is the one to check on Monday rather than assume.
