No. The iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3-inch display and the iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, the same two sizes Apple used for the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. If you were hoping for a larger panel this year, the change is inside the phone, not on the front of it.

Apple’s press release says the design carries over from the 17 Pro generation with a new rear finish, so the footprint of each model should feel familiar. Our iPhone 18 Pro announcement story covers what did change, including the A20 Pro chip and the smaller Dynamic Island.

iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro Max screen size

The two models differ by 0.6 inches on the diagonal, and that gap decides the price as much as anything else. Here is how the sizes line up against last year.

Apple has not published display resolution, peak brightness or refresh rate figures for either model in its release, so we cannot say whether the panels themselves changed beyond the size staying put.

What did change on the front of the iPhone 18 Pro

The one visible difference on the display is the Dynamic Island, which is smaller than before and can now show up to three Live Activities at once. Face ID is retained, so the cutout shrinks without giving up the front sensor array.

Apple has not said by how much the Island shrank or whether the surrounding bezels changed. Our pre-event Dynamic Island report described the three-activity feature before Apple confirmed it on stage.

Which size should you pick?

If screen size is your main reason for choosing, nothing has moved. The 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro is the one-handed option and the 6.9-inch Pro Max is the large-screen option, exactly as with the 17 Pro pair.

  • Pick the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro if you want the smaller phone and can live with up to 36 hours of video playback.
  • Pick the 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max if you want the bigger display and the longer 45-hour video playback rating.
  • Both models get the same A20 Pro chip, the same 48MP Fusion camera with variable aperture and the same storage tiers up to 2TB.

Pre-orders for both sizes open Saturday, September 12 at 5 a.m. PT, with the phones arriving Friday, September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions. Apple has not confirmed the exact dimensions or weight of either model in its announcement.
