Two of the more practical iOS 27 additions never reached the stage on September 9. Enhanced Flyover in Maps combines aerial imagery with Visual Intelligence models to render buildings and individual trees in sharp detail, and a rebuilt iCloud Shared Albums makes it easier for friends and family on Android or Windows to join an album, with full-resolution sharing.
Both are listed on Apple’s iOS 27 page rather than in the iPhone 18 Pro press release, which is why they were absent from the keynote roundups. Both arrive with the free iOS 27 update on Monday, September 14, and both also appear in macOS 27 Golden Gate on the same day.

Enhanced Flyover in Maps
Flyover is the 3D aerial view inside Maps. What iOS 27 changes is how the scene is built: Apple says Enhanced Flyover “uses aerial imagery combined with Visual Intelligence models to render everything from architectural fixtures to the shapes of individual trees in stunning, sharp detail”.

The interesting half of that sentence is the model, not the imagery. Visual Intelligence is the same technology Apple puts behind the new Siri mode in Camera on iPhone 18 Pro, and here it is being used to interpret aerial photography into geometry rather than to answer questions about what a camera sees. Apple limits the feature to select cities and has not named them.
Maps gets one more addition in iOS 27 that Apple did not present on stage: Local Lists, which Apple describes as locally relevant collections of places, from trending restaurants to good spots to take kids. That one is United States only at launch, according to Apple’s services announcement.
iCloud Shared Albums beyond Apple devices
Shared Albums is the invite-based album feature inside Photos, and Apple’s iOS 27 page gives it two headline changes. It is “Easier for friends and family on Android or Windows to join”, and there is now “support for full-resolution sharing”, which Apple lists as a new capability rather than an existing one.
Apple’s iOS 27 material adds more file types, emoji reactions, per-album activity feeds so you can see what changed in each album, temporary albums for one-off events, and web access from iCloud.com for people on Android or Windows. That last point is what makes the rest useful: an invited participant no longer needs an Apple device in hand.

Neither Enhanced Flyover nor the Shared Albums changes are listed by Apple as Apple Intelligence features, so neither appears to be tied to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 or later hardware requirement that governs Siri AI and the new Photos editing tools. Apple has not stated a device requirement for either one beyond iOS 27 itself.

- Which cities get Enhanced Flyover, or how many, or whether the list grows after launch.
- Whether Enhanced Flyover needs a particular chip to render, or how much data a session pulls.
- What “more file types” covers in Shared Albums, and whether that includes video formats or RAW files.
- Whether Android and Windows participants can add photos through iCloud.com or only view and react.
- How long a temporary album lasts, or who can set its expiry.
- When Maps Local Lists expands beyond the United States.
