Apple has published one trade-in figure for the iPhone 18 Pro launch in the UK: customers trading in an iPhone 16 Pro or later can get £455 in credit instantly. That is the whole of it. There is no per-model UK table on any Apple page, and Apple’s own UK trade-in page shows no values until you answer its questions.
The single figure is unusual, and worth understanding before Saturday. In the United States Apple publishes a range, $175 to $885, for anything from an iPhone 13 onward. The UK gets one number attached to one condition, which makes it far harder to work out what an older phone is worth. Pre-orders open at 1:00 pm BST on Saturday 12 September, and the iPhone 18 Pro starts at £1,199.
Key facts

| Per-model UK values | Not published |

| When the credit arrives | Instantly, applied against the purchase |

| In store | A Specialist evaluates the device on the spot |
| Devices that do not qualify | Recycled free |
What the £455 line does and does not say
Read the sentence carefully and it does three things. It sets a figure, it attaches that figure to an iPhone 16 Pro or later, and it promises the credit instantly rather than as a bill credit spread over a contract. That last part is the genuine difference between Apple’s route and a network’s.

What it does not do is tell you what an iPhone 15, an iPhone 14 or an iPhone 13 is worth in the UK, or what a scratched iPhone 16 Pro is worth as against a flawless one. Apple’s published position on that is general rather than numeric: values vary with condition, year and configuration, not every device is eligible for credit, and an estimate can change after inspection. The credit is the same whichever model you are buying, so it does not tilt the Pro against Pro Max decision one way or the other.
| Question people ask | Apple’s published answer |
|---|---|
| What is my iPhone 15 Pro worth in the UK | Not published |
| What is my iPhone 16 Pro worth | Up to £455, subject to inspection |
| Is there a condition grading scale | No scale published, only questions and an inspection |
| Does a cracked screen still qualify | Not stated for the UK. Apple says values vary with condition |
| Can I put the credit toward a monthly plan | Credit is applied to the purchase, instantly |
| What if my device is not eligible | Apple recycles it free |
The parts of the process Apple does document
The mechanics are published even where the numbers are not, and they are the same shape wherever you are.
- Get an estimate, choose the new product, add the trade-in, then check out. The credit comes off the purchase or can be taken as an Apple Gift Card.
- Apple’s stated estimate window is 14 days after you receive your new device, so a phone bought on 18 September has until early October.
- Before handing anything over: back up the device, turn off Find My, and sign out of your Apple Account. Apple sends these instructions in its confirmation email.
- In a store, Apple’s wording is that “a Specialist will evaluate your device on the spot, so the trade-in credit you get in the store may differ from the estimated trade-in value you received online if the condition doesn’t match what you described.”
Comparing Apple against a UK recycler
This is the comparison UK searchers actually want, and it cannot be done properly from published sources yet. Apple gives one number for one class of device. A recycler gives a quote per model and per condition, on its own site, on its own terms, and Apple carries none of it.
What you can compare is the shape of the two offers rather than the amounts. Apple’s credit is instant and applied at the till, which lowers what you finance over the 30 months at 0% APR that Apple UK offers. A recycler pays you after it receives and inspects the phone, which means you buy the new one at full price first. Those are different cash-flow decisions even when the headline numbers are close. Whether the upgrade is worth making at all is a separate question, and our iPhone 18 Pro against iPhone 17 Pro comparison sets out the eight differences that decide it.
One more thing worth weighing before you commit an old phone: it will keep working. iOS 27 arrives free on Monday 14 September for iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), so a device you keep as a spare is not stranded on old software.
What has not been confirmed
- Any UK trade-in value for a model older than the iPhone 16 Pro.
- Any per-model UK table. Apple’s UK trade-in page renders no values in its published text.
- The condition tiers behind the £455 ceiling.
- Whether Apple accepts non-Apple phones in the UK, and at what value.
- Any comparison between Apple’s UK credit and a third-party recycler. Apple publishes nothing about them, and we will not print a figure we cannot source.
UK pre-orders open at 1:00 pm BST on Saturday 12 September, with the phone in shops on Friday 18 September. If you are trading in, the estimate you accept at checkout is provisional until the device is inspected, and Apple has said so in its own words.
