Apple prices iPhone Duo separately in every launch market, from $1,999 in the United States to A$3,499 in Australia and 364,800 yen in Japan. Buying in another market is legitimate and straightforward, but it moves three things that matter more than the sticker: whose terms your warranty sits under, which coverage you can attach afterwards, and which radio set you carry.
One thing it does not move is the SIM tray, because iPhone Duo does not have one anywhere. That single fact removes the oldest reason people import iPhones.

These are Apple’s own starting prices for the 256GB model, from its regional newsroom releases on September 9. They are starting figures: Apple has not published every storage tier in every market.

We have not converted those into one currency on purpose. The rate on the day you pay, plus any foreign transaction fee, decides the real gap.
The warranty belongs to the market you bought in
Apple has not published country-by-country warranty or service terms for iPhone Duo in any material we can read. What is published is the storefront: a Duo bought in Germany is sold by Apple’s German store at 2,299 euros including VAT, with that market’s receipt, that market’s currency and that market’s consumer law behind it. Treat service in a different country as an open question rather than a given.
The coverage question is sharper. AppleCare One, at $19.99 a month for up to three products, is the only Apple plan with a published price for this launch, and it was introduced in the United States. Apple has not published whether it can be attached to a Duo bought in another market, and per-device AppleCare+ prices for iPhone Duo are not published in any region.
There is no SIM tray to gain
iPhone 18 Pro is eSIM only in twelve named countries and keeps a physical tray everywhere else, which is exactly why buyers have historically shopped across borders. iPhone Duo is eSIM only worldwide, so no market sells a version with a tray.
In practice that makes your carrier’s eSIM process the thing to check, not the country of purchase. Apple lists dual eSIM with two active lines and eight or more profiles stored across more than 500 supported carriers, and there is no physical fallback if a network cannot provision one.
mmWave, and the two launch waves
Apple describes the Duo’s C2 modem as including mmWave 5G in the United States, and has not published a modem breakdown for other markets, so a Duo bought outside the US should not be assumed to carry an identical radio set.
Timing cuts the other way. Duo reaches more than 70 countries on Friday, October 23, with 28 further regions on Friday, October 30. If your country is in the second group, buying in a first-wave market saves a week, and that week is what you would be weighing a trip against.
Tax sits inside some of these prices and outside others
Apple marks the Australian price inc. GST, the German price inkl. MwSt. and the Japanese price tax included. The US figure carries no tax note at all, and American sales tax is added at the till, so the $1,999 headline is not what leaves your account in most states.
- The United Kingdom abolished its tourist VAT refund scheme on 1 January 2021, so a visitor buying in London pays the full £1,999 with nothing to reclaim.
- EU refund schemes exist but set their own minimums, for example 100.01 euros per store per day in France and 154.94 euros in Italy and Spain, and the goods must leave the EU with you.
- Japan switches from in-store tax exemption to an airport refund on 1 November 2026. Duo ships on October 23, so a 2026 purchase still falls under the old system.
- Inside the US, Delaware, New Hampshire and Oregon charge no sales tax at any level. Alaska and Montana have no statewide tax but permit local ones. At an example 8 percent rate, avoiding sales tax is worth $159.92 on a $1,999 Duo, our arithmetic on Apple’s published price.
What has not been confirmed
Apple has not published Duo prices for France or the UAE, warranty or service terms by country, repair pricing for the folding display or the hinge, per-device AppleCare+ prices, or any carrier offer for iPhone Duo in any market. No carrier has published Duo terms of its own either. Prices above 256GB are published in some markets and not others.
Pre-orders open on Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT, with Singapore listed at 8 p.m. SGT the same day, and the phone goes on sale on Friday, October 23. iOS 27 arrives free on September 14 whichever storefront you use, and the Duo itself ships with iOS 27.1.
