The iPhone 18 Pro costs $1,199 for 256GB. The iPhone Duo costs $1,999 for the same storage. That is an $800 difference between Apple’s smallest new Pro phone and its first foldable, and the two share more than the price tags suggest.
Both run the A20 Pro chip and both offer 256GB to 2TB of storage; the Pro ships with iOS 27 and the Duo with iOS 27.1. What separates them is the body: a 6.3-inch slab with Face ID and a telephoto lens, or a 5.4-inch phone that opens into a 7.6-inch screen and unlocks with Touch ID. Where the iPhone Duo pulls ahead
Screen area is the obvious win. Apple says the Duo’s outer display alone has more than 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, so closed, you give up very little. Open, the 7.6-inch inner panel runs Split View with two apps side by side and reaches 3000 nits outdoors.

Battery is the less obvious win. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro at up to 36 hours of video playback on the eSIM-only model. The Duo’s dual-cell battery is rated at 44 hours on the outer display and 31 hours on the inner one. The Duo also gets Apple Pencil (USB-C) support on both displays later in 2026, according to Apple, and two years of free satellite Messages, Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance.
Where the iPhone 18 Pro pulls ahead
The camera. The iPhone 18 Pro’s main camera has a six-blade variable aperture from f/1.48 to f/4 with manual aperture and shutter speed controls, and it keeps a dedicated telephoto lens. The Duo has a fixed f/1.6 main camera, an optical-quality 2x telephoto cropped from that sensor rather than a separate lens, and 10x digital zoom at most. Face ID, a SIM tray outside the 12 eSIM-only countries, and faster charging are the other Pro advantages. The iPhone 18 Pro reaches 50 percent in about 15 minutes wired; the Duo takes about 20 minutes with a 60W adapter. And the Pro arrives on September 18, five weeks before the Duo’s October 23 date.
Which one should you buy?
Our read: if you want the best iPhone camera, the smallest body, or a phone in your hand this month, the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199 is the pick. If the reason you carry a big phone is reading, video and multitasking, the Duo’s inner display is the first iPhone answer to that, and its outer screen means you do not give up a normal phone to get it.
