iPhone Duo Screen Repair: What Apple Published About the Display, and the Price It Has Not

Apple has published an unusual amount of engineering detail about the two iPhone Duo displays and no repair pricing for either of them. If you are trying to work out what a broken folding screen would cost, that number does not exist in public yet.

What does exist is a full description of how both screens are built, an IP68 rating, and Apple’s confirmation that AppleCare+ and AppleCare One plans are available for iPhone Duo. That is enough to reason about risk. It is not enough to reason about a bill, and any figure circulating before Apple publishes one is a guess.

Published detailWhat Apple states
Inner display7.6-inch Super Retina XDR OLED folding display, 1878 by 2670 at 430 ppi
Inner display coverCustom polymer with 40 percent higher stiffness than the industry standard, over high-strength glass layers
Inner display finishCustom nano-texture finish plus an Apple-designed scratch-resistant coating
Outer display5.4-inch Super Retina XDR OLED, 1398 by 2034 at 460 ppi
Outer front materialCeramic Shield 2, which Apple credits with three times better scratch resistance
BackCeramic Shield
Water and dustIP68, maximum depth 6 meters up to 30 minutes

The two screens are not made of the same thing

The outer 5.4-inch display is fronted by Ceramic Shield 2, the same material Apple puts on the front of iPhone 18 Pro, with a claim of three times better scratch resistance. That is a known quantity from a known family of parts.

The inner display is not glass on top. Apple describes a custom polymer cover with 40 percent higher stiffness than the industry standard, sitting over high-strength glass layers, finished with a nano-texture surface and an Apple-designed scratch-resistant coating. A polymer top layer bends in a way ceramic cannot, which is the entire reason it is there, and it is also why Apple specifies a separate coating on top of it.

The practical consequence for an owner is worth stating plainly: the surface you touch most when the phone is open is the softer of the two, and it is the one Apple has priced no repair for.

What IP68 covers here, and what it says nothing about

Apple rates iPhone Duo IP68 to a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529, the same rating it gives iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. On a phone with a hinge and two panels that is a substantial engineering claim.

It is also a laboratory rating for dust and water ingress under controlled conditions, not a promise about a specific accident and not a warranty. It tells you nothing at all about what replacing a display costs, which is a separate question Apple answers on a separate page it has not yet published for this model.

The number Apple has not published

There is no published iPhone Duo screen repair price, no hinge repair price, and no out-of-warranty service pricing for any product Apple launched in September 2026. There is no per-device AppleCare+ price for iPhone Duo either. Apple confirms only that AppleCare+ and AppleCare One plans are available for it.

We are not going to estimate the figure. A folding display is a genuinely new part with no Apple price history to anchor against, and inventing a number for a $1,999 phone would tell you something confidently wrong at the moment you were making a decision with it. Here is the whole of what is and is not on the record.

What this means before October 16

Pre-orders open on Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT and iPhone Duo reaches buyers on Friday, October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, with 28 more on October 30. Anyone choosing coverage at checkout will be doing it without knowing the repair price that coverage exists to protect them against.

The honest reading of that gap is that it argues for caution rather than against it. A part with no published replacement cost is not a cheap part, and the one route Apple does price, at $19.99 or $49.99 a month, is knowable in a way the repair bill currently is not.

What Apple has not said

  • The price of an iPhone Duo inner or outer display repair
  • The price of a hinge repair
  • Out-of-warranty repair pricing for any September 2026 model
  • A per-device AppleCare+ price for iPhone Duo
  • Whether the inner display is serviced separately from the hinge assembly
  • A fold cycle rating for the hinge

Apple usually posts repair pricing alongside availability, so the earliest realistic date for a published figure is the October 23 on-sale date.
