Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 3 brings two important versions of Jason Dessen back into the story, but it does not give viewers a final count of every Jason in the multiverse. The number is effectively open-ended because each decision during multiverse travel can produce another branch and another variant.
“Everything Beautiful, Everything Terrible” follows the Jason living with Daniela and Charlie while Amanda and Ryan encounter Jason2 in another reality. It also returns to the consequences of the many Jason variants who reached the original Chicago during the Season 1 finale.

Apple’s official episode description says Jason’s fixation on the Box tests his marriage, while Ryan and Amanda enter a world that has been permanently changed. Apple does not number the variants, but episode coverage commonly uses Jason1 for the man reunited with his family and Jason2 for the alternate who originally abducted him.
Jason1 is living with Daniela and Charlie in a quieter world with limited modern technology. He studies the Box because he wants to protect them from anyone who may follow. Published recaps report that he dismantles it, only to see a Box form again. The ending establishes that his attempt to remove the gateway has failed.
Jason2 appears in Amanda and Ryan’s storyline after they change their navigation method. Instead of concentrating only on the qualities of a destination, they focus on a person connected to it. Their arrival also brings them near another Ryan and a government investigation into the multiverse disturbance.
The episode therefore has two clearly identifiable Jasons at the center of its active stories. However, that does not mean only two exist. Season 1 showed many variants converging on the same Chicago, and Episode 3 reporting indicates that authorities are still dealing with that aftermath.

Why the Jason count has no simple answer
Apple has not published a canonical total, and the show’s multiverse rules make a fixed number misleading. Viewers can track Jason1, Jason2 and the variants shown in a specific scene, but an exhaustive count remains unavailable. Episode 3 increases the danger by showing that neither the Box nor the people created by its branching paths can be neatly erased.
