The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max carry over the design of the iPhone 17 Pro generation, at 6.3 and 6.9 inches, with a new rear finish and a smaller Dynamic Island as the visible changes. Apple did not present a redesign, and its press release does not claim one.

What stayed the same on the iPhone 18 Pro
- Two sizes: a 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro and a 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max.
- The overall shape and layout, which Apple says carry over from the 17 Pro generation.
- Face ID, which remains despite the smaller Dynamic Island.
- An aluminum enclosure, now made with 85 percent recycled aluminum.
- The Ultra Wide and front cameras, for which Apple announced no changes.

The smaller Dynamic Island was the one design change that leaked accurately before the event. Our Dynamic Island leak report flagged the three-Live-Activities feature in advance, and Apple confirmed it.
Why Apple kept the shape
Apple has not explained the decision, so what follows is analysis. The clearest signal is Greg Joswiak’s line in Apple’s press release that the company focused on “camera, performance, battery, and intelligence,” a list that does not include design.
The internal changes support that reading. A next-generation vapor chamber attached directly to the A20 Pro, a variable-aperture main camera and a battery rated for up to 45 hours of video playback on the Pro Max all fit inside a chassis Apple describes as carried over, which suggests the existing shape had room for this year’s priorities.
Apple has not published dimensions or weight for either model in its release, so we cannot say whether the updated cases reflect any small change in size or simply new colors and materials. Anyone planning to reuse an iPhone 17 Pro case should wait for Apple’s spec pages.
