tvOS 27 exists, its release candidate went out on September 9, and the features Apple has actually described for Apple TV this year are a redesigned Podcasts app with video, Apple Music AutoMix and Hi-Res Lossless audio. What Apple has not published is a tvOS 27 release date or a list of compatible Apple TV models, which makes this the thinnest documented release in the OS 27 family.
Every other platform got a product page with a date on it. Apple’s tvOS address now redirects to a general TV and Home page with no tvOS 27 content, and the developer release notes for tvOS 27 return a title and nothing else. The build history is the firmest evidence there is: developer beta 1, build 24J5289o, on June 8, and the tvOS 27.0 release candidate, build 24J360, on September 9, the day of the “Surprise and shine” event covered in our event recap.

The tvOS 27 features Apple has confirmed
All three come from Apple’s June newsroom post on services rather than from a tvOS page, and all three are app-level changes rather than system ones.

- Apple Podcasts on tvOS gets what Apple calls a complete redesign with video playback, sidebar navigation and creator episode artwork. Video podcasts on the biggest screen in the house is the headline change for Apple TV this year.
- Apple Music AutoMix, the beat-matched transition feature between songs, becomes available on tvOS and HomePod.
- Hi-Res Lossless audio plays on tvOS through compatible external outputs on Apple TV 4K, which means a receiver or DAC rather than the box on its own.
Apple’s June 8 developer post also names tvOS 27 among the releases getting software improvements, and lists the Steam Asset Converter and other porting tools as targeting tvOS, which points at games. Beyond that, Apple has published no feature list. The event on September 9 did not include Apple TV at all.
Which Apple TV boxes get tvOS 27
Apple has not published a compatibility list, so the honest answer is that nobody outside Apple knows which models are covered. There is one useful hint on Apple’s current Apple TV 4K page: it flags feature differences between the second-generation and third-generation Apple TV 4K, so even features that do ship in tvOS 27 may not behave identically on both boxes.
Apple’s Apple TV 4K page does describe the vibrant look and feel of Liquid Glass on tvOS, but that language carried over from tvOS 26 and carries no version number, so it is not evidence of a tvOS 27 redesign.
Siri AI is not on the Apple TV list
Apple names the platforms getting its new assistant precisely: “Siri AI is available in beta in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.” tvOS is absent, and Apple has not said whether or when Siri AI reaches Apple TV.
Apple TV still has an Apple Intelligence job, though. The Home features in iOS 27, including spoken descriptions of HomeKit Secure Video clips and natural-language clip search, need a home hub, and Apple lists Apple TV 4K alongside HomePod and HomePod mini as eligible hubs, plus an iCloud+ plan and an Apple Intelligence device such as the iPhone 18 Pro. The intelligence runs elsewhere; the box does the hosting.

The pattern is consistent: five platforms with a date, a device list and a feature page, and one without any of the three. That is worth remembering when you see September 14 attached to tvOS 27. It is a reasonable inference from the release candidate arriving alongside the confirmed September 14 iOS 27 release, not something Apple has stated.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not published a tvOS 27 release date, a release time, or a compatible-device list. It has not published a tvOS 27 feature page at all, and the developer release notes did not render when we checked. It has not said whether Siri AI is coming to Apple TV, whether tvOS 27 changes Liquid Glass, or what the games and porting tooling means for the box in practice.
The next step is to watch Settings on the box itself. On Apple TV, Settings, then System, then Software Updates will offer tvOS 27 whenever Apple posts it, at no charge. The other five OS 27 releases are confirmed for Monday, September 14.
