Both new Apple Watches swim. Apple rates Series 12 at 50 meters with a depth gauge that stops at 6 meters, and Ultra 4 at 100 meters with recreational scuba certification to 40 meters, and that single difference is what separates a $399 watch from a $799 one in the water. The Ocean Band in…

Satellite Across Apple's 2026 Lineup: Two Free Years, and Nothing Published About Year Three
Satellite appears three times in Apple’s 2026 announcements and always with the same number attached to it: two years, included. Apple Watch Ultra 4 and iPhone Duo both carry satellite features free for two years, existing iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 owners are getting an additional free year, and Apple has published nothing…
Apple Watch Series 12 Band Fit: What Apple Publishes for 42mm, 46mm and the Bigger Ceramic Case
Apple Watch Series 12 comes in two size classes, 42mm and 46mm, and Apple sells its bands under those same two labels. The catch this year is ceramic: Apple’s specifications list the ceramic case as 43mm and 47mm tall, a millimetre more than the aluminium and titanium cases in the same class, and it is…
Apple Watch by Activity: The Right Pick for Swimmers, Hikers, Runners and Desk Workers
Apple now sells exactly three watches, and what you do with your day picks between them faster than any spec sheet will. Swimmers, day hikers and desk workers can stop at the $399 Apple Watch Series 12; only long-distance runners, divers and people who go off grid can point at an Apple number that justifies…
Apple Watch Ultra 4 for Races Over 24 Hours: Every Workout Battery Mode, and Where Training Load Fits
Apple Watch Ultra 4 publishes three workout battery ratings: up to 18 hours of outdoor workout, up to 25 hours in Extended Workout mode, and up to 45 hours in a new Max Extended Workout mode that records GPS at one-second intervals. Apple aims that top mode at 100-mile races. Ultra 4 rates up to…
Apple Watch Sleep Tracking in watchOS 27: Every Confirmed Change for Series 12 and Ultra 4
Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 both list a sleep score and sleep apnea notifications, and both add an overnight vitals view that compares Recovery HRV with your personal baseline. What is easy to miss is where those changes live: Apple’s own watchOS 27 feature list does not name a single sleep…
Apple Watch Recovery HRV vs Overall HRV: What Apple Says Separates the Two
Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 measure heart rate variability every five minutes, and Apple reports the result in two named forms: Recovery HRV, which it ties to daily stress and recovery, and overall HRV. The difference is not the sensor. It is what each number is measured against. Heart health insights…
Apple Watch Readiness Inputs: What Activity, Training Load, Vitals and Sleep Each Demand From You
Readiness on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 is a single daily number from 0 to 10, and Apple says it is built from four inputs: recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep. Two of those four are gathered while you are asleep, which makes overnight wear the part of the routine…
Apple's Secure Exclave: What Apple Says Happens to the Audio Your Apple Watch Hears
Apple says the audio behind the new listening features on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 is handled inside a Secure Exclave, which it describes as a dedicated hardware-isolated compartment on the S11 chip, and that no audio recordings are stored. Live Rewind returns the last 15 seconds of a conversation as…
The watchOS 27 Features Locked to the S11 Chip: What an Older Apple Watch Cannot Get
Four of the features Apple showed on September 9 never reach an older Apple Watch, no matter which version of watchOS it runs. Apple’s own support document limits Sound Recognition, Music Recognition with Shazam, Live Rewind and Siri Recap to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, the two models built around…
Apple Watch Series 12 Bands: Apple Has Priced None of Them, and Where the Money Actually Goes
Apple has announced every new band for Apple Watch Series 12 and published a price for none of them. The only Series 12 figure on Apple’s store page is From $399, which covers the 42mm aluminium model with whatever band that configuration includes. There is no published band price list, and no published price for…
Apple Watch Trade-In: $30 to $430 for Your Old Watch, and How That Compares With Best Buy's $325
An old Apple Watch is worth between $30 and $430 in Apple credit depending on the model, based on the values recorded for individual models when Apple changed them on September 9. Best Buy’s listing takes a different approach: up to $325 off an Apple Watch Series 12 pre-order for an eligible Apple Watch trade-in,…
Apple Watch Ultra 4 at $799: Every Published Way to Pay Less, and Why Best Buy's $325 Is Not One of Them
No retailer has published a discount on Apple Watch Ultra 4. The one confirmed launch promotion in this category is Best Buy’s, and its listing applies it to Apple Watch Series 12 pre-orders, not Ultra 4: up to $325 off with an eligible Apple Watch trade-in, expiring 9/18/2026. Amazon lists Ultra 4 at $799 with…
Live Rewind and Siri Recap Need an iPhone 16 or Newer, Apple's New Support Document Says
Apple published a support document on September 9 that gives a name to a set of Apple Intelligence features on its two newest watches, and it carries a requirement that is easy to miss. Two of the four features in the category need an iPhone 16 or newer, and the other two do not. Apple…
Apple Watch Series 12 Aluminum, Titanium or Ceramic: What Each Case Weighs, and What Apple Has Not Priced
Choosing between aluminum, titanium and ceramic on Apple Watch Series 12 changes four published things: the front crystal, the weight, the case dimensions in ceramic, and the finishes on offer. It changes nothing about the chip, the sensors, the display or the battery. Series 12 comes in 42mm and 46mm cases, or 43mm and 47mm…
Apple Watch Readiness: What the Score Is Built From, and Whether It Is Worth a New Watch
Readiness is a single score between 0 and 10, produced once a day and updated as the day goes on, built from four inputs Apple names: recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep. It ends in one of four recommendations, Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It. Readiness is listed on Series 12 and…
Apple Watch Series 12 Heart Sensors: What Changes If You Are Not an Athlete
If you are not training for anything, what the new Health Sensing System on Apple Watch Series 12 changes is how often the watch measures you and where those numbers surface, not what the watch is able to tell you. Apple’s figures are precise: heart rate every five seconds all day, and heart rate variability…
Apple Watch Ultra 4 or Series 12: The Three Numbers That Decide It, Starting With Your Wrist Size
Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Apple Watch Series 12 share the S11 chip, the same Health Sensing System, the same Readiness app and the same 64GB of storage, so this is not a health decision. Three published numbers settle it instead: the wrist range each case is designed to fit, how many hours the watch…

How to Use Sound Recognition Alerts on Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4
Sound Recognition on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 alerts you when the watch’s microphone picks up sirens, alarms, doorbells or a baby crying. Apple says the feature requires one of those two models, runs on the S11 chip, and keeps no audio recordings. Sound Recognition is part of Audio Intelligence, the…

Apple’s tech specs list three items in the Apple Watch Series 12 box: the watch, a band, and an Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable, 1 meter long. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 box lists the same three items. Neither box includes a USB-C power adapter, so you need your own. Apple Watch…

Both arrive with the free update on Monday, September 14, the…
