What it actually fixes
- Car pulls focus mid-call? You get in the car while on a call with AirPods—your iPhone stays on AirPods instead of handing the call to the car system.
- Living-room speaker turns on? A paired soundbar or smart speaker coming online won’t steal playback.
- You’re still in charge. You can always switch outputs manually from Control Center or the audio picker.
What it does not change
This setting is not about AirPods auto-switching between your personal devices (iPhone ↔ Mac ↔ iPad via iCloud). If that’s what bugs you, adjust per-device behavior in Bluetooth settings (AirPods > Connect to This [Device] > When Last Connected to This [Device]).
